Empowering New Voices Through Solar Education in Providence
On July 16, 2025, PosiGen partnered with the Rhode Island Office of Energy Resources to host a solar and energy efficiency information session—delivered entirely in Spanish—for approximately 30 residents of the Olneyville neighborhood in Providence. The event aimed to connect families with affordable clean energy solutions through the state’s Affordable Solar Access Pathways (ASAP) program, which helps expand equitable access to renewable energy across Rhode Island.
The event was made possible through the coordination of the Woonasquatucket River Watershed Council (WRWC) and its Nuevas Voces program, with additional support from State Representative David Morales, a long-time advocate for community equity and environmental justice.
Nuevas Voces, which translates to "New Voices" in English, is a 10-month bilingual advocacy program. It aims to empower Providence community members to become local leaders by fostering a deep understanding of environmental science and community advocacy. The program combines classroom learning with hands-on site visits, covering a range of topics including public health, environmental science, flooding, transportation, toxic exposures, wastewater treatment, local/state government, and community organizing.
At PosiGen, we believe that solar is for everyone regardless of income, language, or background. That’s why partnerships like these are so important. Together, we can ensure that all families—especially those historically excluded from renewable energy opportunities—have the knowledge, support, and access they need to thrive in a clean energy future.
