Mayor Justin Elicker and PosiGen encourage homeowners to take advantage of Solar for All program

New Haven Mayor Justin Elicker and PosiGen joined city officials and residents to kick off an innovative public-private partnership and citywide campaign today, with the goal of making clean energy more accessible and affordable to New Haven Homeowners. The City of New Haven has once again teamed up with PosiGen, the nation’s leading provider of renewable energy and efficiency solutions for low-and moderate-income families, to offer Solar for All New Haven. The program combines a solar lease and energy efficiency upgrades with an energy savings agreement to lower the energy burden of participating households.

“The Solar for All initiative is an opportunity for all our residents – regardless of income – to be a part of the climate solution by switching to renewable energy, reducing their carbon footprint, and lowering their energy bill at the same time,” Mayor Elicker said. “It’s good for the environment and it’s good for your bank account, and I encourage homeowners to learn more about the program and how solar energy can potentially be a great option for their home and their family.”

Over 200 New Haven homeowners have already installed solar energy with PosiGen, with homeowners saving an average of $985 per year, amidst a time of rising utility costs. PosiGen, a Louisiana-based solar company with headquarters in Connecticut, aims to close the clean energy affordability gap by making solar available to all homeowners regardless of income.

“Everyone deserves the right to clean, renewable energy,” says Kyle Wallace, PosiGen Vice-President of Public Policy & Government Affairs. “We’ve made it our mission to bring solar to the communities who need it most. All families, and especially low-to-moderate income families, are susceptible to rising energy costs, and the Solar for All program puts those homeowners in control of their energy future. We look forward to reducing the energy burdens on New Haven homeowners and making their homes healthier.”

As part of its climate and sustainability efforts, the City of New Haven is actively working to reduce its own carbon footprint through the electrification of its buildings and by encouraging increased adoption of renewable energy and energy efficiency improvements among residents, homeowners, and businesses. The Solar for All program is another great option for residents. Its goal is to ensure that all homeowners in Connecticut have the opportunity to enjoy full-size residential solar systems installed on suitable homes, regardless of income or credit score. PosiGen’s lease program covers the full cost of installing, maintaining and insuring the solar system, and also provides energy efficiency upgrades to the customer’s home.

The Solar for All citywide campaign, which will go through the end of the year, will include door-to-door canvassing, tabling at community events, and information sessions, among other outreach initiatives. The first info session occurred on Thursday evening at 6 p.m. at The Shack, a community center located at 333 Valley Street in the West Hills neighborhood. Additional info sessions are also scheduled for Thursday, May 11th from 12 to 1 p.m. and Tuesday, May 16th from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at New Haven City Hall (165 Church Street, Meeting Room 1) with others to follow.
