Profiles in Solar – Stuart Semple and his Solar Powered Paint

Back to Blog |

To start the new year off, we here at PosiGen are going to be featuring a different piece about solar each week. It could be a person, location, or event.

Stuart Semple, an artist known for his brightly colored works referencing pop culture and music – and also for his cheeky rivalry with artist Anish Kapoor, released a paint that we can only describe as solar powered!

On Thursday, January 11th, Semple released a video introducing Lit – a pigment designed to gives off a luminous glow, even in daylight. The paint can be “recharged” by shining light directly on it or heating it up and the glow lasts about 12 hours.

It’s not glow-in-the-dark, it actually  gives off light and  recharges from light (or heat) shining on it. While this may not be specifically a solar power topic, we think solar powered paint is pretty cool. Not only is it a great tool for artists, but we can already think of a ton of other applications for daily life as well!
