To start the new year off, we here at PosiGen are going to be featuring a different piece about solar each week. It could be a person, location, or event.
The farmers of Japan have been engaged with a battle over their crops – against wild boars, deer, and other destructive animals. They have come up with a creative solution that is so effective it will be available for other farmers via mass production next month.
That solution? A robotic wolf that howls and lights up when it detects movement. The robot covers an area of about half a mile and farmers have been reporting they are successfully working to keep animals that would eat their crops at bay.
Called the “Super Monster Wolf” the creation sports fake fur, a rubber mask, and glowing red eyes. It produces a variety of sounds including gunshots, human voices, and the previously mentioned howl.
The best part? The wolf is solar-powered. This allows it to remain in the field without the need to power with extension cords or batteries that need charging or changing. This invention is another great example of how solar can be used creatively to solve a myriad of problems in our daily lives.
