To start the new year off, we here at PosiGen are going to be featuring a different piece about solar each week. It could be a person, location, or event.
In the French village of Tourouvre au Perche in Normandy, there is a road a little over a half-mile long that is paved with solar. The goal is simple – power the streetlights in town with the generated electricity.
Wattway by Colas is behind the project. The panels are embedded in the roadway and topped with a protective silicon that can withstand the impact of vehicles constantly driving over them.
This first road was launched in December of 2016. Since then, Wattway has remained busy with multiple other projects across the world. Along with additional roads in France, the solar panels have also been installed in Japan and the United States.
We here at PosiGen are excited to see what future progress these solar roadways make as Wattway continues to innovate and install more of these solar roads!
