To start the new year off, we here at PosiGen are going to be featuring a different piece about solar each week. It could be a person, location, or event.
Former astronaut Buzz Aldrin unveiled this month a collaboration with Sprayground – unveiling a line of clothing featuring solar panels. The Mission to Mars collection includes gloves, hats, parkas, and backpacks – one of which includes solar panels for charging electronics on the go.
The backpack has 8 panels running along the back and includes two USB chargers for easy charging of almost any phone, laptop, or tablet. The backpack also features a battery pack. There is not mention of length of time to charge any specific items.
While this collection is certainly not the first to feature solar backpacks, a quick search produced dozens of options in all price ranges – even solar purses, these designs definitely capture the imagination and excitement of space travel along with the potential of charging electronics with renewable resources.
Kudos to both Mr. Aldrin and Sprayground for embracing trends in both fashion and renewable resources. These kind of backpacks are great to have to school, camping, or even daily commuters!
